About Bert
I first studied massage at summer camp, many years past, in the sun and dust of Bass Lake, near Yosemite. Might have been on goldrush day, one of the counsellors was handing them out to folks for "gold," but then showed me how to do it! It was gold rush day for me because I found something I love doing. I kept working on folks throughout my life. But recently I fortified this initial glimpse of a vocation into something formal: I graduated from Boulder Massage Therapy Institute in 2023. They gave me the grounding in multiple modalities, taught me so many tools I use in my practice; even more, they gave me practice in caring for each person who comes, as an individual, and new that day. In this way, sessions I give may differ from person to person, and from visit to visit.
Before massage therapy, I studied Western Classics at St. John's College. All my classes were discussion based...talking about stuff is awesomely helpful...and in this way too my approach to a session is the same as at school in Santa Fe: an open seeking for a solution. Often one place, or two, screams out from the table for being the focus of today's session. And so the session is geared toward that place, the relaxing of compensatory muscles, holding places. Sometimes to mend we must have a wound "seen to." It is my practice that by feeling more oneself healing may be achieved.
